:: Final two projects for jewelry casting are DONE.

This is a ring and I love it. I wish it was smoother but the plastic coated w/ gold paint didn't melt so well in the kiln so it came out with a pourous texture.

This is a bracelet. It's a bit awkward cuz I had wanted one jumpring to link them together but I realized the bigger ones I had didn't match the delicate details of the casted pieces, so now it's 2 per. If I had more time, I prolly would've soldered them on...

Both of the projects called for found plastic "junk". We had to manipulate the pieces to make it out own and cast it. One project (the ring) was just to make something outta plastic. The other project (the bracelet) was to make at least 5 multiples of one thing using a rubber mold and wax and use those to make something wearable.

:: For some reason, every time I play the "read random manga" game, it almost always ends up being shoujo. I dunno why.

My most recent reading spree was Absolute Boyfriend and I bawled like a baby at the ending of it. It was so sad!!! But yet, bittersweet. ;_____;

Oh and it bugged me that Gaku-san would say random words and phrases in Spanish. Last I knew, the Kansai dialect didn't involve espanol. Makes me wonder how it was originally written in Japanese. XD;

:: God my sleeping sched and eating sched have been fucked up. It's not that I've been pulling all-nighters but for some reason I'm just not hungry at the times I used to be and I seem to need more than 8 hrs sleep lately. I dunno. Blah.

Wow. That's so cool that you can make items like these. They're pretty, and I adore the detailed work!

And I hear you on the sleeping/eating schedule front. My system is all jacked to shit. D:

I was just recently reading about Precious Metal Clay. Apparently it's like clay (more like silver particles suspended in a clay-like binder), but then you fire it (or even heat it on a stove top), and it becomes a solid piece of silver! Sounded pretty amazing to me. but expensive. Cuz, silver.

Have you used that stuff? I'm curious about it.

It looks amazing! I'm sure you'll get an awesome grade =D Guuuuuuh really wants me to take that class!!! Mmm I have all of Absolute Boyfriend waiting for me to read it *lazy* That's a fun game though and maybe it's because shoujo's shorter than shounen series and deep down all of us love soap opera dramas that are shoujo?

I'm amazed by it, too. XD You just make what u want outta the plastic stuff and melt it in a kiln for a hollow cast. Cuz there's no way in hell I'd be able to do the detail work that's on the ring. I just don't have the patience. @__@;

Huh. That sounds really interesting. :O I've never heard of this stuff before. We should buy a pack, split it and test it out!

We were using like silver bullions (sp?) for this class and old silver sprues and buttons that came out from previous castings and melting them w/ torches. The oxyacetylene ones were scary. o_o;

You should! Just be ready to pay lotsa moolah. @__@; Not just for the tools (but if u wanna take it, I can give you what I don't think I'll need), but also silver. And the price of that per ounce varies each day. A few weeks ago, I think it was like $17/oz.

I liked Absolute Boyfriend cuz the main girl wasn't AS ditzy/stupid/retarded/dense as others I've read. And it was just overal CUTE and D'AWWWW at what the guys did for her. It didn't have as many WTF twists either. NO POTENTIAL INCEST! YAY. Yeaah...as much as I hate soap operas, shoujo, some shoujo is ok.

You can't really do this at home unless you have your own workshop. Because you need a kiln, torches, and a bajillion other things. ^^; But~ Maybe that Precious Metal Clay Jinyo was talking about earlier in this post will work?

Btw, when are you free? So that I can either grab the gold from you or have a sewing party.

You can get a 20 gram package (which doesn't sound like much to me) for $28, and you can get a syringe filled with 10 grams of it, for squeezing out filigrees and wires and stuff, for $25.

I would guess that 20 grams is enough to make a couple of rings?
You can also get a 5 gram package of gold clay for $268. o_o

See here, you can even fire it on a gas stove, to turn it into a solid chunk of silver.

I wish they had something like this, but not silver. Like, aluminum or something. I'd like to play with metals, but y'know, cheaper.

It's a Japanese product, I should've known. XD; But mm...I think $28 for 20g of silver powder and clay is a bit much. Right now, silver is at $16/oz. But I guess if you don't have the tools to use silver the way I was able to in class, the clay is a good option. It still looks fun to play with though. *_*

Mm, I'm okay. Really tired but I'm glad today's the last day of school for me cuz for some reason, both of my class' final projects are due today instead of sometime during finals week next week. Then it's sweatshopping for Fanime costumes. ;__;

You?
