Hey, all you San Franciscans or San Franciscan-savvy peoples!

Can you suggest where [livejournal.com profile] konishii and I can go on our day out in the city by the bay?

I have a pack of cards that have 50 different "adventures on foot" that someone gave me a long time ago, but they all seem a bit...boring (like walking through a neighborhood to stare at purdy houses) and very touristy. So maybe those won't work out.

Anywhere we have to go see? Places we have to go to eat? Shop?

Any suggestions will be appreciated! Or maybe I'll just grab a map and randomly plot our itinerary as we go. Thanks in advance!

Have you been to SF before? There are the Tourist places, but also more normal gems...

MISSION MISSION MISSION!!! Valencia Street between 16th and 23rd (on the BART). It's the best part of town-- hipsters everywhere, lots of good shopping and food. I think on.. 22nd? There is a mexican/fusion restaurant that is REALLY good. Boogaloos, I think it's called. Dolores park is always good for people watching and is a great place to just relax. I think on 21st right across from the park there's a famous ice cream shop as well. It's also more often sunny in the Mission than anywhere else :D/

Haight & Ashbury are good for people watching and shopping, but it's a slightly older, more hippy feel than the Mission. It's super close to the park and panhandle, which is nice if it's a sunny day. In Golden Gate park, there's a Botanical Garden (kewel but not a must see), a lake where you can paddle boat, and THE MUSEUMSS!! I think the newly designed, totally green Natural History Museum is open by now? If not, the De Young usually has really interested exhibits on. And if it's a nice day, there are usually street venders out and about. There's a road into the park on 9th and Lincoln which will take you straight to the Museums. If you are in that area, 9th and Judah (or around those blocks) is a cute little neighborhood with some good restaurants and little boutiques.

UHhmm what else. I never went to the Zoo-- it's nothing compared to San Diego's I've heard, tho. But I dont really know. Pier 39 is interesting but mega touristy. Ghiradeli Square has some posh shops, and the factory is a good chocolate spot. It's also rather pretty up there!

NIGHT LIFE! The Mission is always bumpin (I'm biased, I know..) but if you want to be Ritzy, go to the top of the Marc Hopkins Hotel (downtown on top of Nob Hill)!! There's a bar (I think it's just called Top of the Marc) and it's got an incredible view of the city. Drinks/antres are a little expensive, but worth it for the view and to feel uber classy.

There are clubs/bars in Downtown as well, but I'm not sure if you're interested.... Downtown is good for shopping too, but it's all big department stores and brands, so whats KIND of shopping you wanna do will dictate where you should go... Also, how much you want to spend lol..

Castro is fun! It's one of the more up-and-coming neighborhoods, so the restaurants are great. The shopping was so-so last time I looked, but I havent spent too much time there.

WHAT ELSE-- Chinatown is cool as Chinatowns usually tend to be, but I always felt it was more of a "Gotta Know Where you are Headed First" sort of place. Wandering can be fun, but dont underestimate the hills!

North Beach has GREAT Italian food and some good shopping. It gets rather Red-Light-Districty at night in some areas, but there are some good bars around. (Sorry I dont know more of the place names, I've forgotten..)

Stay outta the Tenderloin (the seedier offshoots of Marketstreet) if you can (it's not super dangerous during the day, just filled with homeless people etc) and South of Market is the newest neighborhood, which means it's still seedy in some places. I dont know it very well..

There are places further out in the city, or across the bar in Marin, but it doesnt sound like you'll have much time..

ANYWAY, what do you want to do in particular? I can narrow down all this blathering! lol I'm just supremely jealous because SF is my favorite city evor

I've gone to SF a few times, but I've only ever been to Fisherman's Wharf, Pier 39 (I think...or we never made it there, I don't remember), across and under (on a boat) the Golden Gate Bridge, the Presidio, anddd that's about it. Oh, I rode the cable car and feared for my life cuz I stupidly thought it'd be cool to stand outside on the edge but didn't know it could get VERY close to parked cars. XD;;

Hm...I'll be there day time only so no night life, boo. Soo narrowing those down, Mission and Haight sound great. Paddle boattt - I haven't gone on one since I was a kid and I wasn't even peddling, lol. I'm not sure if I have enough time for a museum cuz those tend to take a good chunk of the day, unless I zoom in and out. XD; I've wanted to go to Ghiradeli Square ever since I passed by it once, so good to know!

Thank youuu~ Blathering's okay, it really helped! :)

In the mission, there's a pirate store at 826 Valencia, and a steampunk store a few blocks down (look up 5 & Diamond). Both are awesome.
