✿ Happy Valentine's, S.A.D., S.P.A.T., Whatever Day. I enjoyed it with a nice cold bottle of Blue Moon. ;Db

Weekend recap of sorts:
✿ Friday was dinner with Da Posse at Home. We don't nearly do this enough, but then again when we do, it makes it all that much more awesome. We got free drinks from the bartender cuz he was apparently new and needed the practice. Hey, it was free...and thankfully, were decently made. Afterwards, we went to visit Steph at Ye Rustic Inn a block away. Had more drinks, which led toan impromptu love life counseling session for one of us, which then led to guy bashing and then I think we all just ended up feeling bitter, lol.

✿ Saturday was LACMA day with [livejournal.com profile] sakurae and [livejournal.com profile] random_karen for their European fashion exhibit. We had a yummy late lunch at Johnny Rocket's at Farmer's Market before we headed over, where we met up with Ali. The exhibit itself was quite fascinating. It's really amazing how much work went into making these fabrics and garments for the well off. I had no idea they embroidered designs onto the bolt of fabric first and thus leaving essentially the pattern pieces for the garment. For some reason, I thought they embroidered the pieces when they were already cut out or when they were sewn together already, but before the lining. That and a few other pieces just blew my mind! I was trying to fathom HOW they made it. I feel like I have no right to complain when I make stuff because these people were like PRO.

Oh, and we cracked a joke at how a lot of the materials looked like what we'd use for upholstery now and amused a nearby guard. XD

I also LOVED the paper wigs on the mannequins! I wanted to play with them~

My fave and some interesting things. )

Then something horrible happened: When we were almost done gawking at the exhibit, I dropped my camera. The lens barrel got bent and the metal plate fell off. B'awwwww. ;___________;

RIP Camera-chan. )

✿ Sunday was early celebration for my mom's birthday that's this Wednesday. We went to this restaurant that my parents like, but I don't. Proof: Their mapo tofu was a disappointment.

✿ Had a couple weird dreams the past month.

First one: was interesting... )

Steph and I went to Sanrio's Small Gift LA on one of the last days it was here. It was held at the Barker Hangar at the Santa Monica Airport (I had no idea the city had its own airport, but apparently it's one for smaller planes). The whole thing was pretty much like a carnival with games, face painting, caricature, a small ferris wheel and a few photo op places where you can stick you face into holes cut out into whatever they had. There were GINORMOUS blow-up heads of some of the Sanrio characters hanging from ceiling and everything was Sanrio-ified. Overall, v. cute. But also pricey...1 ticket was like $2....needless to say, we were being a tad cheap and thus didn't play any games (it seemed like the prizes sucked anyway...). I was tempted to make my own t-shirt (more like choose from x amnt of graphics to be silkscreened however you want...too bad you didn't get to do it yourself) and figure out if the magical shrinking tags were shrinky dinks. XD

We did however, enjoy a Beard Papa's cream puff. After walking around some more then decided to wait in line for 2 hours to get into their pop-up shop. I was a bit disappointed at the merchandise they had, but I'm thinking the cooler, better stuff were long gone and these were just the leftovers. After perusing and not really liking anything, I thought, "OMG I need to buy something, dammit! I stood in line for way too long to not come out with something in hand! >_<"

Afterwards, we headed over to Counter Burger. I think I got a beef patty with sauteed mushrooms, Gruyere and some...roasted garlic aioli sauce -- it was pretty good. :9 I'm curious to try other combos now! XD

Pics be here. )

These works place Fairy Tale characters in modern day scenarios. In all of the images the Princess is placed in an environment that articulates her conflict. The '...happily ever after' is replaced with a realistic outcome and addresses current issues.

Also, HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY, [livejournal.com profile] random_karen!!

Wall Street Journal apparently has a wealth of interesting things today. Not that I usually check this site at all, but these are all cool, interesting, etc.

Michelangelo's hidden agenda?

On the 500th anniversary of the artist's first climb up the ladder in 1508 to paint the Sistine Chapel ceiling, a new book claims he embedded subversive messages in his spectacular frescoes -- not only Jewish, Kabbalistic and pagan symbols but also insults directed at Pope Julius II, who commissioned the work, and references to his own sexuality. Read more...

Now well, I don't know if half these "hidden messages" are interpreted correctly but it still was an interesting read and him being gay does kind of make sense as to why his female nudes sucked...or he just sucked at drawing girl. :D

Alicia Keys and Jack White collaborated in a Quantum of Solace song? O__o;

Okay, embedding isn't working for some reason. Here's the link.

I have to say, it's got a bit more oompf and rock and r&b to it. I-I kinda like it...

This is why I wished I lived in New York sometimes (or somewhere close enough to drive there): Cirque du Met: A Classic Tale Gets the Vegas Treatment. It's basically Faust meets Cirque du Soleil with crazy cool uses of projections and multiples of the performers everywhere.

Here's another link from NY Times that has videos. It really looks quite different and very imaginative.
